Choose by the kind of beach day
Menton does not have one single best beach. It has a small set of different spots that work for different moods: Sablettes for the postcard view and family setup, Fossan for a calmer central swim, the promenade beaches for convenience and Borrigo for longer walks and more space.

Plage des Sablettes: families and Menton views
Plage des Sablettes is the beach many visitors imagine first: a curve of sand and fine shingle at the foot of the old town, with church towers and coloured facades behind you. It is a strong all-round choice for families and first-time visitors, with views towards Italy and a mix of public beach space and seasonal private beach options.
Behind the beach, Esplanade des Sablettes has restaurants and bars for a relaxed post-swim meal or evening drink. Names and opening patterns change by season, so treat places such as Pecora Negra, Mediterraneo, Les Incompris or Les Sablettes Beach Club as addresses to check before you plan around them.
A simple plan is to spend a few hours on the public part of the beach, then move to a terrace on the esplanade for an early dinner as the old town lights come on.

Plage du Fossan: a calmer central curve
Plage du Fossan sits closer to the town centre, near Esplanade Francis Palmero and the Jean Cocteau / Bastion area. It has a slightly calmer feel and a wide wooden esplanade that can work almost like a seaside amphitheatre for sunbathing and watching the water.
Because it is central, Fossan is easy to combine with a coffee, an ice cream, a museum stop if open, or a slow walk along the beginning of Promenade du Soleil. If you are sensitive to crowds, try a weekday morning outside peak summer weekends.

Central promenade beaches: easy access
Between the Casino and the Borrigo river, Promenade du Soleil is lined with smaller central beaches, mostly pebbles or mixed surfaces, directly below the main seafront road. They are practical rather than spectacular, but very convenient for a quick swim near cafes, shops and central apartments.
This stretch works well if you want to alternate between the water, a sunbed or towel spot, and a proper sit-down meal without moving far. Beach restaurants and private areas vary by season, so walk the promenade, see what is open, and choose the mood that fits the day.

Borrigo beaches: space and long walks
Further west, towards Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, the Borrigo beaches feel wider and more open. They are mostly pebbly, usually less postcard-perfect than Sablettes, but often better if you value breathing room and a longer seafront walk.
Because Borrigo is slightly less central, it can feel calmer and more local while still staying connected to the promenade. Bring beach shoes for pebbles and consider staying for sunset, when the light softens over the bay and Cap Martin.

Practical beach notes
Across Menton's beaches, lifeguards, showers, sunbeds, private beach clubs and restaurant services vary by season, weather and operator. Check what is open when you arrive rather than assuming every service is available every day.
- Arrive earlier on summer weekends, especially for Sablettes and the central stretches.
- Beach shoes help on pebbles and mixed surfaces.
- For most central Menton stays, the main beaches are reachable on foot without a car.
